"My Light" by Sonja Midtune
Release date feb 15, 2019
"It’s that rare, ultra-intuitive singer/songwriter and storyteller who can take the deeply intimate emotions of a close friend and translate them into a timeless universal love song. At a creative and career crossroads a few years ago, Sonja Midtune took on the fascinating challenge of penning a tune that her friend could give to her husband as a Christmas gift. In crafting and recording the lilting, deeply romantic and spiritually tinged “My Light,” Sonja not only created a transcendent moment for the couple – performing it for the first time as they slow danced - but also a fresh, folk-pop influenced sound at the heart of the new phase of her evolving musical artistry."
About Sonja Midtune:
Sonja Midtune is an artist and songwriter from Minnesota located in Los Angeles. Her music career started very young; harmonizing in the car to Queen at 2, traveling the world at 8 for musical theatre, and singing in bands and musical theatre in high school. Sonja got her BA in Music Theory and Composition at St. Olaf College in MN.
Her original music is in the songwriter-pop category, writing all the music on her own, and her all-natural look. She is known for her poignant lyrics and storytelling, with a back-to-basics style, nodding to the modern pop song but incorporating her composition skills. She's played all over the Los Angeles area including venues such as the main stage at the House of Blues in Hollywood, a 9-month residency Bar Lubitsch, Vibrato Jazz Club in Beverly Hills, The Viper Room, The Bootleg, and the Mint.
Sonja’s music is featured in the soundtrack for the documentary “The Way North”, a feature-length film that follows Sonja and her family traveling to Norway to uncover their heritage and their grandfather’s past. She will be teaching Songwriting at Cal Poly Pomona starting in the Fall of 2019.
